13th

At the beginning I felt very called to listen when President Obama had the opening line in the documentary. He says “ The United States is home to 5% of the world’s population, but 25% of the worlds prisoners. Think about that.” This means that 1 out of 4 human beings are locked up. Another quote that stuck with me immediately was when the next man said “ One out of four human beings with their hands on bars, shackled, in the WORLD are locked up here, in the land of the free.” That to me just made me start thinking right away and wondering how that is and what made it happened.

Everything at the beginning that is being said are quotes that sit hard on the brain and really make you think. The reason this documentary is called 13th is becaue of the 13th amendment which makes it unconstitutional for someone to be held as a slave. The exception is prisoners.The documentary goes more into detail about how the prisoners aspect and African Americans being torn down with this.

This documentary is very educational and very important to watch.
